Tenses – Simple Tense

Notes

Tense means time. It is a property that is exclusive to verbs. Every verb has a number of tenses to indicate when the action or state of condition occurred. To change the present tense to past tense,add ‘d’ or ‘ed’ or change ‘y’ to ‘i’ and add ‘ed’. To create the future tense, add ‘shall’ or ‘will’ to the present tense.

Present, Past and Future Tenses of the verb ‘call’

  • Present Tense: the action occurs at the present time

Examples:

John runs.

He runs every day.

  • Past Tense: the action occurred or was completed in the past

Examples:

John ran.

He ran 10 miles yesterday.

  • Future Tense: the action will occur in the future

Examples:

John will run.

He will run three miles tomorrow.
