Notes

Learning about a topic requires critical reading. This includes reading for main idea and sub-ideas. First, good readers ask questions such as ‘what’, ‘who’, ‘where’, ‘when’ and ‘why’ as they search for the main idea. Next, they look for the sub-ideas. Finally, they look for the supporting details for the sub-ideas. Sentences, which do not talk about the main idea, confuse the reader. These sentences must be deleted. This is an effective strategy for reading information texts.
